Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe & Nickelback Headline Boardwalk Rock Festival Debut
I saw Mötley Crüe's tour Girls, Girls, Girls on October 19, 1987, at The Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The openers were Whitesnake. I was living in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada at the time, and I was convinced by my two sexiest female friends, Mary Jane and Nicole to go with them on a 3-hour bus ride to attend the show. I was 17 years old. The bus ride had been put together by a local promoter and/or radio station. I remember being nervous boarding the bus smuggling vodka. The bus was packed with headbangers.
It was one of the first concerts I attended without adult supervision. Having been born in Calgary, I was aware how big the Saddledome was - at the time, I believe it held about 19,000 people. It was a sight to behold - including the first lesbians I ever saw (I think). They were hot headbangers who had their hair braided together, and were joined at the hips by handcuffs through their belt loops.
The show was amazing. Tommy Lee played on the drumset that was enclosed in a cage that turned upside down and rolled forward, if I remember correctly.
Having said that, I would never, ever, buy a ticket to see them again. With all due respect, Vince Neil is in absolute shambles. I've seen the same videos that y'all have. He mumbles and stumbles around the stage making noises that are quite often not lyrics.
Ocean City, Maryland's inaugural Boardwalk Rock Festival happens May 17-18, 2025.
Def Leppard, I might see, just to hear "Pour Some Sugar On Me", and "Animal".
Nickelback has over 10 billion streams, 50 million albums sold, and 12 consecutive sold out tours.
I would go if Nickelback was the headliner, but I would show up an hour late.
