Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum is serious about their music.
All three musicians are famous in their own right: Michael C. Hall is known as TV's "Dexter", Matt Katz-Bohen is Blondie's keyboardist, and Peter Yanowitz is the original drummer for The Wallflowers.
Self-described as gothadelic rocktronic, they played a tight, energetic one-hour set featuring songs from their album THANKS FOR COMING to a sold-out house at The Big Dipper in Spokane, Washington this past Saturday.
Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild Awards®-winner Hall also starred in HBO's Six Feet Under, and on Broadway in David Bowie's Lazarus, plus a one night performance of Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical.
The part about Skittles is very important here. During the Saturday concert, someone tossed a bag of Skittles on stage and said, "Do something." Hall then filled his mouth with them and proceeded to rapid-fire them into the audience, which was met with cheers of delight.
He also doused the crowd on a couple of occasions with his water bottle. Several people were asked to tone down their calls for Hall to "take it off."
The lyrics, melodies and arrangements are cohesive and move steadily throughout the show, including some orgasmic rave-like drops. I got Bowie, The Beatles, Depeche Mode and Journey vibes.
When their set ended shortly after 10:00 PM, the lights went up and several announcements were made asking patrons to clear out, and that Hall wouldn't be coming out per his contract. Maybe 25 fans waited outside the club doors afterward to try to meet the bands.
The evening exceeded my best expectations. Go see them. Buy their albums.
