Lizzo kicks off her 'Special' Tour on September 23rd

Lizzo is a three-time Grammy™ Award-winning singer/songwriter who has also won a Billboard Music Award, a BET Award, and two Soul Train Music Awards.

The classically-trained flautist also shares a Guinness World Record for most weeks (7) at number one on the US singles chart (Billboard Hot 100) for a rap single by a female artist for “Truth Hurts”.

 

Oh, and she collaborated with Prince for the song “Boytrouble” from his 2014 album ‘Plectrumelectrum’.

Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls

Her reality television series follows the journey of 13 women competing to be Lizzo's dancers. The show won two EMMYS earlier this month and is nominated for Outstanding Competition Program on Monday, September 12th, 2022 at 8 PM (EST) / 5 PM (PST) on NBC and streaming service Peacock.

BACKGROUND

Self-described bop star Lizzo was born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit, Michigan. She's a vocal supporter of body positivity, feminism, black culture and the LGBTQ+ community.

“For the past few years, I’ve been working on myself and learning how to love who I am,” said Lizzo.

 

“There were moments that would’ve completely defeated me when I was younger. Instead, I was able to not just survive, but thrive. This is the person who I truly want to be.”

Since signing with Atlantic Records in 2015, Lizzo’s music has had over 6 billion global streams. Her Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Gold-certified single “Boys” was on TIME magazine’s Top Ten Best Songs of 2018, and her RIAA Platinum singles include “Truth Hurts” (7x), “Good As Hell” (4x), "Juice” (2x), and “Tempo (Feat. Missy Elliott)” (1x).

 

She won Entertainer of the Year and Outstanding Music Video (for “Juice”) at the 2020 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
