Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has been barred from entering the United Kingdom, resulting in the cancellation of the three-day Wireless Festival in London where he was scheduled to headline in July.
The New York Times reported yesterday that the British government barred Ye from entering the country "because of his history of antisemitism," and that his presence "would not be conducive to the public good."
Ye released a song titled "Heil Hitler" last year.
Ye made a plea yesterday to avoid the ban, according to The Times, stating that he wanted to come to London to bring "unity, peace and love through my music" and was happy to meet members of Britain’s Jewish community to hear their concerns.
Wireless Festival's promoters issued a statement that refunds will be issued to ticket holders.
Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, posted on X:
“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values."
