Weezer: The Gathering Tour

American rock band Weezer kicks off their worldwide tour Weezer: The Gathering on September 8th in Sacramento, California. The tour runs through mid-2027 in support of their new album Weezer (Gold Album).

Their 32-city North American arena leg features support from The Shins and Silversun Pickups, with dates including Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn and Los Angeles.

The second leg of the tour kicks off in February 2027 in Japan, with stops in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya.

The third leg of the tour includes Ireland, the UK, and mainland Europe. Taking Back Sunday will be Weezer's guests in the UK and Europe.

Produced by Kenneth Blume (formerly known as Kenny Beats) and Klas Åhlund (of the band Teddybears), the album was preceded by the singles "Shine Again", "We Might as Well Be Strangers", and "C.E.O.".

The band released a lyric video for the song "Say Yes" on the day of the album launch.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Weezer appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on August 19th, two days before the release of the Gold Album. They performed the single "We Might as Well Be Strangers" from the album, joined by Silversun Pickups bassist Nikki Monninger.

Cuomo and Wilson spoke about the new album, and reminisced about their band 60 Wrong Sausages, a precursor to Weezer.

Weezer has won a GRAMMY Award and four MTV Video Music Awards, have sold over 35 million records worldwide, and have earned eight #1 hits on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart.

Their numerous hits include "Buddy Holly", "Undone – The Sweater Song", "Beverly Hills", "Island in the Sun", "Say It Ain't So", "Hash Pipe", and "Pork and Beans".

The band was formed in 1992 in Los Angeles, California by Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals and guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Matt Sharp (bass), and Jason Cropper (guitar). The band's name originated from a nickname that Cuomo's father had given him as a child in reference to the character "Wheezer" from The Little Rascals.

On March 19th, 1992, Cuomo cold-called Raji's rock club in Hollywood to enquire about openings for the band to perform. According to weezerpedia.com, Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar was performing that evening and needed more bands to fill the night's lineup. Weezer took the opportunity and played their first live gig.

They continued playing L.A. clubs until they were signed by Geffen Records in June 1993.

Guitarist Cropper was replaced by Brian Bell in 1993, before the release of the band's debut album.

Weezer broke through in 1994 with their self-titled debut (known as The Blue Album), which went multi-platinum with help from music videos including "Undone – The Sweater Song", and "Buddy Holly" directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze.

Scott Shriner replaced Sharp on bass in 2001.

In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the Blue Album #294 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

On May 14th of this year, The Library of Congress added the Blue Album to its National Recording Registry of approximately 700 recordings that are preserved for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Weezer's fellow 2026 inductees included Taylor Swift (1989 album), Beyoncé (Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) single), and Reba (Rumor Has It album).

Albums By Colours

Weezer's prior colour-themed albums are actually self-titled albums, with nicknames mostly assigned by fans and critics, including the Blue Album (1994), the Green Album (2001), the Red Album (2008), the White Album (2016), the Teal Album (2019), and the Black Album (2019).

The Weezer Coloring Book was released in early 2026, offering the six previous colour albums together on vinyl plus a colouring book and set of markers

Grammy Award

Weezer won the 2009 GRAMMY Award for Best Short Form Music Video for "Pork and Beans" from the Red Album.

They have also earned Best Rock Album nominations for Weezer (White Album) and Pacific Daydream, plus a Best Rock Song nomination for "All My Favorite Songs".

Soundtrack Songs

Weezer's most well-known soundtrack songs include their covers of Jonathan Groff's "Lost In the Woods" for Frozen 2, The Cars' "You Might Think" for Pixar's Cars 2, and The Monkees' "I'm a Believer" for Shrek Forever After.

Weezer's original music has been featured in the movies American Pie 2 ("Hash Pipe"), Mr. Deeds ("Island in the Sun"), The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run ("It's Always Summer in Bikini Bottom"), and Bill & Ted Face the Music with the song "Beginning of the End (Wyld Stallyns Radio Edit)".

Bizarre Festival 1996

Weezer played the Bizarre Festival on August 17th, 1996, at Butzweilerhof in Cologne, Germany, during their Pinkerton tour. This appearance is widely regarded as one of their best festival performances.

Other acts on the bill included Garbage, and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.
