The NFL sparked controversy last week when they announced that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny will be headlining the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
The 31-year-old singer has been criticized for several reasons, including his reported plans to sing entirely in Spanish. He also vocally opposes the current US administration, wears dresses, and refuses to tour in the states due to expected raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Despite being an American citizen, his social activism and fanbase seem to have drawn the attention of ICE agents, who have promised to be at the Super Bowl on February 8th, 2026.
A former WWE wrestler, Bad Bunny has won three Grammy awards, plus 11 Latin Grammys, and ranked number 10 on the 2022 Forbes list of the World's Highest Paid Entertainers, with $88 million dollars net income.
During his stint as host of SNL this past Saturday, he spoke part of his monologue in Spanish, then thanked Latino fans for their support. "If you don't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn," he said, apparently referring to the time until his halftime show.
