Macomb Daily has reported that 32-year-old Matthew Hughes was convicted on Wednesday of breaking into Eminem's Clinton Township home in Michigan. This marks the second time that Hughes has been convicted of home invasion of Eminem's property. Officers stated that Hughes had been living in the woods in the area for the prior few days before the latest break in.
The Macomb Daily stated, "Four years ago, Hughes was convicted by plea of second-degree home invasion for using a brick to break a window to enter the rap superstar’s home in 2020, found Eminem in his bed sleeping and threatened to kill him before being subdued."
"About 7 a.m. Aug. 26, two months after Hughes was released from prison for the first offense, he was spotted by security guard Branislav D. Milosevic alongside the home but ran when he likely realized he had been seen, (assistant prosecutor Seven) Fox said. Hughes had entered an unlocked door, stole a bike inside the house and is seen with it in a security video alongside the home before he fled..."
After a two-day trial earlier this week, during which Eminem testified, the jury took just 90 minutes to find Hughes guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking of the rap star. Mitigating factors in the severity of the convictions handed down this week include the fact that Eminem was again at home at the time of the incident, plus he suffered emotional distress and anxiety - he was sleeping in a padlocked room in a secluded area of the house due to the prior incident.
Hughes was returned to the county jail on a parole hold after the verdict was announced. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17th, 2025, by Judge Diane Druzinski.
