AI tech company Astronomer, whose (now) former CEO Andy Byron was caught allegedly cheating on his wife on a "kiss cam" during a Coldplay concert, has hired Coldplay singer Chris Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow as their spokesperson.
At the band's July 16th concert in Boston, Byron was caught embracing the company's HR person Kristin Cabot during the song "The Jumbotron Song", during which couples in the audience are shown on the large screens. Cabot, who is also married, has since resigned from Astronomer.
Popularized at sports events, the "kiss cam" surprises couples in the audience by featuring them on jumbotron screens, usually resulting in a kiss between the couple to the cheers of the audience. However, when Byron and Cabot were shown on screen, Cabot covered her face and turned from the camera, while Byron ducked out of frame.
At the time, Martin said to the amused crowd, "Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy."
Byron resigned from Astronomer after the video went viral, with memes flooding social platforms. He has reportedly threatened legal action against Coldplay over the incident.
On Friday, Astronomer released an ad from "temporary spokesperson", Oscar winner Paltrow, defending the company and its employees. The tongue-in-cheek video features Paltrow answering questions from the public.
“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.”
One question, "OMG! What the actual f", is answered by Paltrow saying, "Yes, Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow...the company is thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation."
