The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced yesterday the winners of the fan vote. Surprisingly, Phish, initially an underdog, ranked number one. In order, here are the top seven of 14 nominees.
Phish: 329,281 votes
Bad Company: 280,725 votes
Billy Idol: 260,416 votes
Cyndi Lauper: 236,960 votes
Joe Cocker: 233,495 votes
Soundgarden: 233,205 votes
Chubby Checker: 203,092 votes
As exciting as this may sound for fans of these artists, all this means is that each of these seven artists are awarded one extra vote during the 'real' vote by 1,200 by-invitation-only industry people.
The fan vote ranking of the remaining seven acts are:
The Black Crowes: 165,249 votes
Mariah Carey: 137,993 votes
Joey Division + New Order: 120,346 votes
The White Stripes: 110,511 votes
Outkast: 108,073 votes
Oasis: 99,381 votes
Maná: 34,506 votes
The inductees will be announced live on American Idol on Sunday, April 27th at 8 PM (EST) on ABC.
The induction ceremony will be held in Los Angeles this fall.
