Cardi B Not Liable for Assaulting Security Guard in $24M Suit

Updated: Sep 18

Grammy winning rapper Cardi B was found not liable at a civil trial over claims she physically assaulted a security guard, Rolling Stone magazine reports.

"Jurors spent less than an hour deliberating in the closely watched case. They agreed plaintiff Emani Ellis suffered no damages after she argued with the rapper inside a Beverly Hills medical building seven years ago."

Ellis’ lawyer claimed in the $24 million lawsuit that his client was on a routine patrol when Cardi B exited an elevator on February 24th, 2018, "fought with Ellis and cut the woman’s left cheek with a fingernail."

Cardi B's lawyer claimed that Ellis was the aggressor. “Plaintiff went berserk,” he said in his final comments. “Plaintiff advanced on Cardi, screaming and yelling, forcing Cardi backwards.”

"Both sides agreed that a confrontation erupted over disputed claims that Ellis was filming" Cardi B while she was pregnant with her first child with rapper Offset. Cardi B's lawyer said she "hadn’t yet told her parents she was expecting, and she considered Ellis’ actions to be a violation of her privacy surrounding something 'sacred.'”

Cardi B was reportedly visiting an OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) office in the building when the altercation occured.
