Disney World's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, has shut down the 59 MPH indoor Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith after a 26-year run, in preparation to relaunch it as a Muppets-themed ride in 2026, according to multiple sources.
"For the Aerosmith ride, the premise was that guests join the band for a recording session, and are invited to take a hectic ride on their limousine as they race to make it to a concert in time," reported NME magazine.
"In a new post on the Disney Parks Blog, the new premise will be that visitors go along for the ride and have to track down members of The Electric Mayhem when they go missing before a show."
The songs "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", "Walk This Way", "Back In The Saddle", and "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith were featured during the original ride.
The new Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets comes during a push by Disney to reignite the Muppets brand, which they acquired from The Jim Henson Company in 2004 for $75 million.
The Muppets Mayhem was a rock & roll themed musical comedy series on Disney+ in 2023, focusing on the Muppets house band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, featuring legendary drummer Animal.
A Muppet Show special is scheduled to air on Disney+ in 2026 to celebrate the original show's 50th anniversary. Seth Rogen's company, Point Grey Pictures, is producing the show, and will guest star Sabrina Carpenter, who is also an executive producer.
"Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the original variety series," stated The Hollywood Reporter. "The hope is for the Muppet Show special to serve as a backdoor pilot for a new season of the iconic series that debuted in the ‘70s."
During the final concert of her Short n' Sweet Tour in Los Angeles, Carpenter enacted an arrest on audience member Miss Piggy for being too beautiful, a skit that Carpenter did with celebrities in the audience throughout her tour.
Jennifer Lawrence has acknowledged that she is working on a Miss Piggy movie with Emma Stone.
