Updated to add name of deceased concert-goer
Liam Gallagher of Oasis says he has been asked (by an unnamed source) to discontinue throwing his tambourine or maracas into the crowd during Oasis concerts, citing safety concerns after multiple fan injuries, according to Billboard magazine.
"Earlier this week, during a trio of shows at Edinburgh, Scotland’s Murrayfield Stadium, Liam broke the news to fans that the tradition of tossing percussion instruments into the audience had officially been banned."
The Sun (UK) reports that the policy was enacted after "two mindless blokes mobbed a female fan during one of their Wembley shows and nicked his maracas off her."
"Speaking on stage in Scotland, during one of their shows at Murrayfield Stadium, Liam said: 'I can’t throw my tambourine out tonight or my maracas I’ve been told not to. I’m not being tight or anything like that. Do you know what I mean?'"
He appeared to chastise concert-goers by saying, “I’ve just been told, ‘Don’t do any of that s**t anymore,’ because you don’t know how to behave yourselves. You keep pinching each other on your nipples and ears and f***ing s**t like that and kneeing each other in the bollocks.”
On August 2nd, 2025, a man fell approximately 170 feet to his death at an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. The fan, identified as Lee Claydon, 45, from Bournemouth, England, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told the Los Angeles Times that contributing factors may have included a lack of security, and overconsumption of alcohol by the crowd in the balcony. Another witness cited slippery floors from spilled beer as a possible reason for the fall. The Metropolitan Police in London, UK, have asked for additional witnesses to come forward.
Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher are currently touring as Oasis for the first time in 16 years.
