OSCAR NOMINEES: BEST ORIGINAL SONG 2025

Writer: Curtis NewartCurtis Newart

The five nominees for the Academy Award for Best Music (Original Song) 2025, include:

“EL MAL”

Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón sang the gruesome cartel-themed original song "El Mal" from the film EMILIA PÉREZ. Frequent exciting transitions, including Broadway musical-type inflections, lead me to believe this will take the prize.

NOMINATED: Clément Ducol and Camille (Music); Clément Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiard (Lyric)

“THE JOURNEY”

H.E.R. performed the World War II-inspired original song "The Journey" from the film THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT. Was not expecting such soaring notes. In conjunction with the movie visuals, this is a solid second for the prize.

NOMINATED: Diane Warren (Music & Lyric)

“MI CAMINO”

Performed by Selena Gomez, “Mi Camino” is the second nominated original song from the cartel-themed film EMILIA PÉREZ. Pretty song, with high production values and supporting orchestration.

NOMINATED: Camille and Clément Ducol (Music and Lyric)

“LIKE A BIRD”

Abraham Alexander & Adrian Quesada sang the original song “Like A Bird” about wrongful imprisonment from the film SING SING.

NOMINATED: Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada (Music and Lyric)

"NEVER TOO LATE”

Performed by Elton John & Brandi Carlile from the documentary film ELTON JOHN: NEVER TOO LATE.

NOMINATED: Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Watt & Bernie Taupin (Music and Lyric)

The Oscars, hosted by Conan O'Brien, will air live on ABC and stream live on Hulu on March 2nd, 2025 at 7 PM (EST).
