Papa Roach & Carrie Underwood Score Gold

Trigger warning: suicide

The suicide prevention song “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)" by Papa Roach and Carrie Underwood was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) last Wednesday, on World Suicide Prevention Day, as reported by MNPR Magazine.

The recognition acknowledges 500,000 units sold of the song, released in August 2024. It is a re-recording of the original Papa Roach song released in 2022.

Papa Roach lead singer Jacoby Shaddix was a longtime friend of the late Chester Bennington, former lead singer of Linkin Park, who tragically died by suicide in 2017 at the age of 41. Shaddix has publicly committed to raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

Underwood joined Papa Roach onstage at their show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 5th, 2025, to record a live performance of the song (below).

Papa Roach and Underwood have donated their royalties from the song to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), for whom the song represents their "Talk Away the Dark" campaign.

MNPR magazine also reported that Papa Roach donated a £20,000 cheque ($27K US approximately) to suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) on February 7th, 2025, during a show at Wembley Arena.

Papa Roach is currently celebrating their 25th anniversary with the Rise of the Roach World Tour.
