Seattle police have declined to consider a new report by forensic scientists claiming that Kurt Cobain was a victim of homicide, according to multiple sources.
The Nirvana singer was found dead in the atrium of his Seattle home on April 8th, 1994, by an electrician installing a security system. The 27-year-old's cause of death was ruled to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound from three days earlier.
A new peer-reviewed research paper by two independent forensic specialists alleges that Cobain's death was a homicide. The paper alleges that one or more people forced Cobain to overdose on what was likely heroin, before delivering a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
Published in the International Journal of Forensic Sciences, the paper states that Cobain's body was "moved from the site of the homicide and staged to appear as a suicide."
The Seattle Police Department allegedly sent a statement to the Daily Mail (UK), who initially reported the story, stating, "Our detective concluded that he died by suicide, and this continues to be the position held by this department."
Cobain was married to Courtney Love when he died. They share a daughter, 33-year-old Frances Bean.
